Business school in city centre move

ONE of the biggest business schools in the region is celebrating its move to a new city centre base today as it looks to create closer links with Yorkshire business.

Leeds Business School, part of Leeds Metropolitan University, is moving to the Rose Bowl building in the city's civic quarter under its new Dean, former Royal Bank of Scotland executive, Martin Allison.

The business school has more than 5,000 students from over 60 countries and boasts 300 employees including 230 academics of which nine are professors.

It includes Leeds Law School and Leeds School of Accountancy&Financial Rose Bowl Services and Mr Allison is determined to bring the school and its staff and students closer to firms across Yorkshire.

The university is celebrating the opening of the futuristic Rose Bowl building this evening with a reception for members of the business community and public sector hosted by chief executive Dr Geoff Hitchens.

Mr Allison said: "This is Britain's newest purpose-built business school which is putting education at the very heart of the civic and business communities.

"We want business to come in and work with us so we can be a catalyst for the regional economy and be involved in innovation and action.

"I want the business school to be relevant and real. I want to bring the different sectors together, it's a facility open for business and I want the business school to be easing and assisting any recessionary woes," he added.
